Occupational Therapy
The 'Practice of Occupational Therapy' means the therapeutic use of purposeful and meaningful occupations (goal-directed activities) to evaluate and treat individuals who have a disease or disorder, impairment, activity limitation, or participation restriction which interferes with their ability to function independently in daily life roles, and to promote health and wellness. In the Pediatrics field, some of the areas occupational therapists focus on are children's visuomotor abilities (i.e. handwriting, scissor skills), organizational abilities (i.e. ability to organize and execute a school project), fine motor coordination (ie. dressing skills), sensory integration, and eating as it pertains to using utensils as well as any sensory based feeding difficulties (i.e. picky eaters). Our occupational therapists lead the team in creating an individualized treatment plan which encompasses every aspect of chilrden's lives.Physical Therapy
The "Practice of Physical Therapy" means the therapeutic use of electrotherapeutic equipment, assistive technology, manual therapy and exercise to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and function throughout life. In pediatrics, physical therapists' goal is to help the children attain maximum physical independence whether to be able to navigate school, home, and outdoor environments safely, or to engage in extracurricular activities and games with their peers. Physical Therapists address gross motor delay via addressing children's underlying issues which maybe: weakness, decreased endurance, poor balance and coordination, visuo motor difficulty, decreased sensory integration and praxis (motor planning) abilities.Speech-Language Therapy
The "Practice of Speech-Language Therapy" is two-fold and includes: Language therapy where the focus is on receptive language, or the ability to understand words spoken to you, and expressive language, or the ability to use words to express yourself. It also deals with the mechanics of producing words, such as articulation, pitch, fluency, and volume and Speech therapy where the problem is with the mechanics of speech. Our SLP goal is to help children use the gained speech and language skills during play and to truly communicate with other children.
